Where To Stay In Pasco
Pasco is a little-populated department in central Peru that incorporates Andes Mountains and Amazon rainforest. Of most interest to the visitor are the high jungle regions around Oxapampa and Pozuzo that were populated by German and Austrian immigrants in the second half of the 19th Century. Their influence is very much in evidence to this day.
From Oxapampa, there is access to the stunning Yanachaga-Chemillen National Park, known for its rivers, waterfalls and varieties of tropical forest.
Going further east, Pasco's low Amazon is home to a number of indigenous peoples, including the Ashaninka.
The accommodation in the region tends to be fairly rudimentary, but the beautiful, unspoilt scenery makes up for this.
