The beach at Huanchaco attracts weekend visitors from nearby Trujillo, as well as sun-seekers from Lima and overseas. 

Huanchaco is the spiritual home of the caballito de totora - traditional reed boats that have been used by fishermen for centuries. 

These caballitos can be seen drying in the sun on Huanchaco beach having been used to go fishing earlier in the day. 

Fishermen kneel on the caballito and paddle it like a kayak. 

Huanchaco beach stretches all the way around the bay, so there is plenty of space to lay out your towel.
