Fighting Cock Bags

Ever wondered how to transport your fighting cocks?

You may or may not agree with cock-fighting, but it is a tradition here in Peru, especially in rural areas, such as Pedro Ruiz Gallo in Amazonas, which is close to Gocta Waterfalls; or Huancayo in the Central Highlands … and they take it seriously.

The birds are magnificent, and so care has to be taken when transporting them.

These photos of specially-designed hand luggage for the transport of fighting cocks (galponeras) were taken in Pucallpa airport, as the birds were being flown to Lima.

The cock-fighting tradition has diminished greatly in Peru's capital, as it has modernised, but arenas can still be found in use on the outskirts of the city, such as in Pachacamac and Los Olivos
